Among the many adventures featured in this series, Chip and his family embark on long treks in the blistering cold of the Arctic in their search for remote new hunting grounds, Sue navigates a new all-terrain vehicle back to her remote outpost home across 100 miles of desolate tundra in the dark and -50F temperatures, while Andy and Kate take on the task of teaching a newcomer how to survive life off the grid.

With temperatures rising across Alaska, Sue must battle the elements to keep her camp running in the face of threats from waking predators. In Eagle, break-up on the Yukon River marks the most arduous time of the year, with Andy and Kate spending every hour building and preparing for the oncoming freeze. The Hailstones venture to a new summer camping ground with plans to teach their girls how to stock fresh fish, meat, and other resources while the land is plentiful. With a small window for their subsistence hunting, Erik and his new wife set out to harvest fresh spring meat. As the waterways thaw, Glenn must test his building skills in order to access nearby hunting areas in search of available food sources.

Season 1
End of the Road
Six people separated by hundreds of miles, all joined by the common cause of surviving the winter in the Alaskan bush. In Noorvik, Chip races to set whitefish nets on thin ice for the last catch of the season. Fishing on the frozen river is deadly, but it's vital to haul enough fish to last through the winter. Andy tests the safety of the river surrounding his house that he uses as a link to the outside world. Without this winter lifeline, he is trapped and isolated.
Hunt, Barter and Steal
Sue heads home after recovering from an injury, only to find that her fuel supply has been stolen. Elsewhere, Chip and Agnes are unable to access their hunting grounds and are forced to barter their supplies.
